The popular Tiktok platform is designed to be used on mobile devices. But, can you use TikTok on PC? Stick around to find out!
TikTok doesn't work natively on PC the way it does on Android devices, iPhones, or iPads. But you may be able to enjoy the qualities or advantages of the platform through various workarounds that will be disclosed below.
Throughout the length of this article, we'll be walking you through all the steps you need to take in order to be able to use, search, and watch TikTok on PC.
From our experience, AirDroid is the best way to enjoy TikTok and all its features from the comfort of your desktop PC, due to it being able to provide the most streamlined and native experience.
The beauty of AirDroid is that it relies on your own mobile device's computing power, internal storage, and RAM, so you won't be going through the usual limitations and clogs that plague Android emulators. We'll be unpacking the benefits of using AirDroid for squeezing the most utility out of TikTok and other Android applications in general.
Without further ado, let's delve into each one of the methods described above.
AirDroid Personal has been in our midst since 2011 and has become one of the most reliable solutions for remote-controlling Android devices. It's also cross-platform, meaning that it can optimally connect two devices with different operating systems.
With AirDroid Personal Remote Control, you'll be able to easily have access to your mobile device and its screen, no matter where the phone may be at a given time. It's, in our view, the best way to use, search and watch TikTok on a PC without having to rely on cables or needing to have your phone or tablet next to you.
Your Android device is also capable of connecting to your PC without having to root. Non-rooted devices may still need to go through a USB debugging process. To use AirDroid Personal Remote Control, follow the steps described below.
For non-rooted devices:
Step 1. Install AirDroid on your mobile device and log in using your account. You’re supposed to grant all the necessary permissions as directed.
Step 2. Go back to your PC and download AirDroid's desktop client (direct download link here). Then install AirDroid following the instructions laid out by the installation wizard.
Step 3. Log in by using the same account as your mobile app.;
Step 4. From the desktop client, click on the Remote Control module (identified by a telescope icon), select Non-Root, and then click on "Connect".
Step 5. Finally, choose "Remote Control".
For rooted devices, you'll have to grant permissions over at the Root management app (generally Super SU or Magisk). You can consult the detailed guide here on how to proceed.
Once you went through its first installation phase, AirDroid is arguably one of the easiest ways to use the popular social media application on the PC without having to suffer through long load times or use copious amounts of resources from your computer.
Furthermore, it doesn't require you to have a powerful PC for a moderately decent Android experience on your PC and you may have access to your phone camera if you wish to record videos (a feature you could have at arm's reach by subscribing to the premium plan, which is, by far, the only setback for those with a very limited budget.)
If you want to look for other options, read below.
There is no TikTok download for PC. You would have to access it from your web browser. There is, purportedly, a Chrome extension, but it's developed by a third-party developer not associated with TikTok, so you should tread carefully.
If you want to know how to search on TikTok (PC / Mac users alike), it's as simple as accessing the website here. You will find basically all the same features as the mobile app for searching or browsing videos and channels. It gets the job done from the point of view of simply consuming content.
Nonetheless, content creators will be deeply disappointed with the returns provided by the website, as it won't enable them to record videos from their PC camera or to do live streams. It's not the best way to exemplify how to use TikTok. In PC ecosystems, the best option for recording videos and doing live streams is by way of other platforms such as YouTube or Twitch.
There's yet another option through an Android emulator.
Android emulators have been around for an awfully long time, and, since then, they have improved quite a lot, especially in recent years.
The most pressing issue with Android emulators has been optimization. You usually need a PC with decent specs to be allowed to perform most tasks, and some applications are not entirely fit for running on an emulator.
Another disadvantage is that Android emulators tend to cause conflict with the PC camera. Thus, you would find yourself on the same spot as those who are bound to the desktop website, with the difference being that the website is far more optimized for media consumption. Hence, it's not the most efficient way to upload to TikTok from PC.
Regardless, Android emulators are an option for people who are not able to access TikTok through their own mobile devices, either because they don't own one or because they had to take it to a repairman.
Bluestacks is touted as being one of the best Android emulators on the market and it's based on Android Nougat 7.1.2, which is a lot newer version than what most other emulators ordinarily provide.
Hopefully, we were capable of disclosing the most common methods employed to use, search, and watch TikTok on PC, as well as the reasons why we believe that AirDroid is the best alternative for you, as you'll be able to use it in its most native form and with all the features available on the mobile app. The other methods, amid their benefits, are also prone to spoil the TikTok experience due to their drawbacks.
