Is PolyBuzz AI Safe for Kids? No…

That post, originally shared by a parent on Reddit, stopped me in my tracks. The comments that followed were even more alarming, as parents discovered explicit roleplay and hentai-style content. Someone even described it as a dating simulator.
And somehow, the app had ended up on kids' devices through YouTube ads. As such, many parents are asking:
Is PolyBuzz AI Safe for Kids?
Obviously, PolyBuzz AI is not safe for users under 18.
After spending time exploring the app myself, it is very clear that this isn't something children should be using.
At first glance, PolyBuzz seems like an AI chatbot. But once you browse through the homepage, the experience is heavily built around roleplay, and much of that content is adult-leaning or outright explicit.
What worried me most is how accessible all of this is for children. There's no meaningful age verification, and no filter. Add over time, emotionally engaging chats, which make it a risky app for kids.
What Parents Should Know about PolyBuzz
1. What Is PolyBuzz?
Polybuzz is an AI chat and roleplay app built around interactive conversations with virtual characters.
One of its main features is the ability to chat with its massive characters, from anime icons and movie stars to influencers.
There's also an option to create AI characters. Users can define personalities, backstories, and conversation styles, then let others interact with them.
2. Does PolyBuzz Have Parental Controls?
Yes. With PolyBuzz parental controls, parents can:
- View how long kids use this app daily and weekly
- Set when kids cannot use the PolyBuzz service
- Force Pure Mode for their children

These controls work through account linking, where a child needs to add the parent's PolyBuzz account to connect. And this is not practical on my end. I (as a parent) had to open the email inbox and click the link to accept the invitation. There is no notification within the app.
Moreover, the parental control feature is only available on the PolyBuzz app. That said, if your child's using the PolyBuzz web, all parental controls are gone.
3. Why Kids or Teens May Use PolyBuzz AI?
First, many kids are deeply invested in anime, gaming, or movies. And PolyBuzz is a way for them to step inside their favorite stories. Instead of just watching a character on screen, they can "befriend" them.
Secondly, PolyBuzz provides instant emotional value. Teens may feel misunderstood by adults or lonely during night hours. This time, PolyBuzz is a 24/7 friend that is always ready to listen and respond exactly the way they want.
Major Risks With PolyBuzz: Why It Is Not Safe For Kids
Here are the primary reasons why PolyBuzz is not safe for children:
1It Is Designed for 18+ Only
One of the most important things parents should understand is that PolyBuzz is not intended for children.
The nature of the platform, i.e., open-ended roleplay and adult-themed character interactions, clearly targets an older audience.
This is reflected in platform ratings as well. On Apple App Store and Google Play Store, the app carries an 18+ rating, indicating the possibility of mature or suggestive content.

2Poor Age Verification
Another concern is how easily minors can access the platform. When I tried to sign up to Polybuzz on the web, it did not ask me for my age; rather, it just asked for my email.
While the PolyBuzz app requires a birth date (must be 18+) during sign-up, there is no real verification, like face video verification. That is, minors can simply enter a fake birth year to instantly access the app.

This concern has also been raised by users themselves. In community discussions, including suggestions posted on Reddit, users have pointed out the lack of meaningful age restrictions and requested stronger limitations to prevent younger users from accessing adult-oriented content.
3Unfiltered NSFW Content
Does PolyBuzz have a filter? Yes.
PolyBuzz includes a feature called "Pure Mode," which is meant to reduce explicit content recommendations and is turned on by default. However, in practice, this mode does not prevent suggestive or adult conversations via searches.
For example, I could search for suggestive characters and enter NSFW conversations with minimal effort. Seems like Pure Mode is just for show.

What's more, because most characters are user-generated, content quality and safety vary widely. Certain characters are clearly designed for romantic or sexual roleplay or scenarios, and these can easily appear through your teens' recommendations or search results. So, that's why some parents said it is a dating simulator.

4Unhealthy AI Emotional Attachment
Beyond content concerns, this is another risk of AI conversations themselves.
Some PolyBuzz characters are designed to respond overly romantically or clingy. For a developing teen, this can create heavy emotional dependency on a "virtual" bot, reducing or even replacing real-world relationships.

There have been reports describing situations where younger users began treating AI characters as companions or romantic partners.
How to Block PolyBuzz AI for Minors
Due to the risks of unfiltered adult content, weak age verification, and the potential for deep emotional dependency, we believe PolyBuzz AI is unsuitable for minors. So, to block your child's access to PolyBuzz, you can:
Prevent PolyBuzz Downloads
Since it's being promoted with ads on YouTube and other platforms, you'd better use built-in settings to stop them from installing the app.
Here's how to set age restrictions for new downloads:
- Step 1.Open your child's Google Play Store and tap the profile icon.
- Step 2.Go to "Settings > Family > Parental controls."
- Step 3.Turn it "ON" and set a PIN.
- Step 4.Then, tap on "Apps & games" to restrict downloads by app's rating based on your child's real age.
- Step 1.Open the "Settings" app.
- Step 2.Head to "Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions."
- Step 3.Under "App Store, Media, Web, & Games," select "Apps" and limit apps by age rating (e.g., 12+).
Block the App and Website Completely
If PolyBuzz is already on your child's device, or children access it through a browser, try to block the app access with tools like AirDroid Parental Control.
It allows parents to block the PolyBuzz app and website with one tap. Also, it can send alerts when a child saves inappropriate images.

- Step 2.Sign in and connect your child's Android or iPhone by entering the pairing code.
